Hello Novermber! We continue to highlight our youth champions who continue to transform their communities in various capacities. This article focuses our spotlight on our last 2 champions. We celebrate their community development contributions.
Background and Passion
Robert is an actuarial science student. He is an avid volunteer and aspiring
entrepreneur with a passion to help other young people develop economically
through entrepreneurship. He is also very involved in the efforts to combat climate
change and environmental destruction.
Leadership and Achievements
He has played a key role in multiple community outreach programs with various
organizations including VSO, Volunteer-Involving Organizations, Greenpeace Africa and
the Hult Prize. While volunteering in VSO he helped plan a three-day training to
empower young people with hearing disability gain employment skills. He also
organized a clean-up and waste management training exercise in his residential town.
Motivation to join YSD
Ruhiu joined YSD so as to play an active role in youth development. He hopes YSD will
link him to other changemakers who seek similar goals and can give ideas in how to
reach them.
Aspirations
Robert aspires to use his entrepreneurial skills to develop social enterprises that will grow
the community as well as inspire other youth to build businesses that have a positive
impact on society.

IMANI ENOCK
Background and passion
Imani is an Education policy researcher, a teacher, an SDG enthusiast, a passionate humanitarian advocator and a writer. He has published and attended various peer reviewed papers for various interdisciplinary conferences in Kenya on issues about Education and Tech.He has a voluntary experience with VSO-ICS under the EYEE project in Makueni Kenya.
Leadership and key achievements.
Imani believes leadership is an important skill for one to have. As a leader in his community, he has improved his self-confidence, mobilization, advocacy and speaking skills through his day-to-day experiences with people. He has served as a student leader, mentor and held almost every club office, including serving as a legal advisor for the Kibabii University Red-cross chapter in 2019. Enock has also been involved in youth and women programs that ensured sustainable livelihoods in various organizations. He mobilized resources and started a poultry learning center as a running project.
Motivation for joining YSD
Imani was motivated by the desire to bring positive change to the society and the opportunities to grow and achieve his goals. He also wanted to find out what he is good at through staying, generating community solution ideas and serving others. Since joining YSD Nairobi, he has become more self-awareness, which has benefited his career.
Your aspirations
“My aspirations in life have always been tied towards achieving social change which includes practice of random kindness that can start a ripple effect beyond myself,” adds Imani. He is also looking forward to becoming a humanitarian and education policy expert.
Your message to the youth
“Let’s keep the fire burning; we have the strength and all that it takes,” he concludes.
